A market town's reputation as one of Norfolk's top food and drink destinations continues to grow thanks to recent additions.

Aylsham has experienced a boom in recent years, with a whole host of new pub, café and restaurant openings.

This includes the fish deli and cocktail bar M's of Aylsham and bakery and café Bread Source, which was already in the town centre but relocated to a larger site.

Pizza restaurant Stamp launched in the former post office in Hungate Street in March 2023 after a huge revamp.

Stamp got off to a strong start and this was built on later in the year with the introduction of pasta dishes and a weekend bottomless brunch offering.

The Blind Pig, a new wine bar and bistro in the town centre, has also proved popular, with the head chef James Adams taking inspiration from his travels across the world.

Aylsham's newest addition is The Porters Arms pub, which opened its doors in Red Lion Street in December 2023.

It boasts a 10-tap bar and a fridge stocked with craft beer cans and it is from the same team behind the Malt and Mardle micropub in Norwich.

Emily Bridges, one of the owners, said: "Aylsham is a very up-and-coming town.

"There are lots of great food and drink businesses, but we saw a gap in the market for the craft beer side of things."

There has been a recent loss to Aylsham's food scene with the closure of the intimate fine dining restaurant Hodson & Co in Red Lion Street, with the site available to lease from February 1 2024.

Its award-winning chef-owner Charlie Hodson posted on Instagram: "It would perfectly suit a little restaurant - maybe tapas-style or even a retail outlet."

Aylsham's independent food and drink scene will no doubt grow even further in 2024.
