A Norfolk Broads tea room has closed early for the winter due to repeated flooding.

Riverside Tea Room & Coffee Shop in Wroxham's Riverside Road has been closed for two weeks after floods made the building inaccessible.

Although the situation is now improving, owner Steven Bland has decided it is not worth reopening until the spring.

The business would usually take a break from the end of November but Mr Bland explained it would be running at a loss if it reopened again for a short time.

"Since we closed we have had nothing to do but deep clean and clear our old stock so there is no point making anything new," he said.

"The decision to close was forced upon us, when the water level rose we were literally marooned.

"At this time of year, the general demographic is more mature and they are just not going to be able to fight through a foot of water to get to a coffee shop."

Wroxham and Hoveton have been one of the parts of Norfolk worst hit by flooding in recent weeks, which has been caused by heavy rain during storms Babet, Ciaran and Debi.

The area surrounding the tea room is privately owned so Mr Bland said he could not turn to the council for help or support during this time.

"It's just where we are," he added. "It's a double-edged sword - we get the benefit of all the tourists in the summer but face risks like this in the winter.

"I have been here for 10 years and there have been floods to a lesser degree but I have never seen it so severe."
