Thousands of students in Norfolk and Waveney will today know more about their next steps as they receive their GCSE results.

Today is GCSE results day, when students at schools and colleges around the country find out whether the weeks of revision paid off.
The results are the first under the new system, which will see English literature, English language and maths grades given in numbers rather than the traditional A* to G in what has been described as the biggest exam shake-up in a generation.

We'll be updating this full list of results during the day. Latest results will appear alphabetically, and figures in brackets are last year's results.
Though it is difficult to compare results like for like, it will give an indication of how the new system has changed results.
A nine is the highest score, a one is the lowest, a four is a good pass (a C) and a five is considered a strong pass (a B/C).

'But it's not all about that - it's about individual children getting what they need to progress to the next stage of their lives. The teachers coming in today have been asking about how their students did, not the overall figures. We have a massive range of abilities coming here, including some students who go on to Oxford and Cambridge, and we do all we can to help everyone.'Many of these students will be going on to study at our new sixth form college, which we're all very excited about.'

Head of school Mike Earl said: 'Although it is slightly down on last year, given the educational landscape and more difficult GCSEs we are delighted, actually. We had quite a lot of level 9s in English and maths at the top end, and individually the two departments improved on last year.
'It is only when you combine them together there is a drop. The students responded as best they can because they weren't given any real guidance from the exam boards. Once again, the students have excelled themselves and surpassed all expectations.'

While we haven't had the high grades we have had in the past, we have got more than a third of those who have done 10 or 11 subjects and come out with good grades.'

We are so pleased to see that 71pc of our students achieved a pass grade for English and maths which is an increase of 2pc on last year. This is such a big achievement considering the change in specifications and is a credit to the individuals, staff and governors who worked so hard.
'Thirty-one of our students gained six or more of the higher level passes which is again an increase on previous years. We are so proud of each and every student and would like to offer our warmest wishes to them for their future and thank the families who have supported them during this journey. Headmaster Chris Staley said: 'This has been a vintage year for GCSEs at Wisbech Grammar School and they represent our best results since 2010, which is fantastic news. Considering the curriculum changes, the move to the new nine to one grading system and the fact that national press headlines have today been talking about the significant drop in top grades awarded this summer, the pupils at Wisbech Grammar have bucked this trend. I am incredibly pleased by their achievements, the dedication of the staff and last, but by no means least, the support from parents/guardians.'

Jonathan Taylor, executive principal, said: 'Congratulations to our year 11 students on an excellent set of GCSE results. We are especially delighted that 8% of students achieved the new top 9 grade in English and 5% in maths, significantly above national levels of less than 3%.
'The percentage of students achieving 5+ grades are also extremely high. Students and staff have worked really hard to achieve such a great set of results and we look forward to welcoming students back to our top performing sixth form.'
