Young farmers in Norfolk raised almost £50,000 for local charities and good causes last year.

Members of Diss YFC have been particularly successful raising £8,000 for the East Anglian Children's Hospices in 2011 and £4,000 last year for Macmillan Cance Care.

Now members are planning the 'Air, Land and Sea' fundraising event. It includes the club chairman's first parachute descent and Dan Woods will start at Ellough airfield, near Beccles. Events are being planned by charity co-ordinator Adam Goymour.

It has been decided to adopt the Norfolk Zipper Club, which was established to support Papworth Hospital, as the charity of the year.

Harleston YFC has decided to support YANA (You Are Not Alone). It offers confidential support to the wider farming community and especially to help those felling isolated, depressed or just unable to cope. With an estimated one in five people in Britain likely to experience a problem with depression at some stage, YANA can help.

The club's chairman, Miles Easton, proposed the idea of supporting YANA and invited Norfolk farmer Melinda Raker to explain the aims and objectives to members.

The contact number and website is carried on the top of the Farm & Country pages every Saturday.

Harleston YFC hopes to generate funds at the 'Nite of Lite' event, an annual egg run and the annual clay shoot in June at Weybread.
