St Tropez, Imperial Leather and Jeyes are among the unlikely household products with parts manufactured at home in Norfolk.

For four decades after Coda Plastics was launched in converted farm buildings in Felthorpe, it is on course to reach a record turnover of £6m.

And the North Walsham-based firm, which specialises in bottle caps and closures, has taken on five new people since December, bringing its staff number up to 43.

Joint managing director Nick Tate, who is also co-owner, said reducing risk was the key to surviving the financial crisis.

'It was tough through the recession but the good companies will always come through the difficult times,' he said.

'It is about looking at a better mix of businesses you work with and reducing risk.'

Last year the turnover grew 15pc from £4.5m to £5.2m, and a further 15pc increase is forecasted for this year. New employees from the local area included one from the former Heinz factory in Westwick which closed in April - leaving 200 people without jobs.

Mr Tate said the firm, based in Folgate Lane, would now focus on apprenticeships and working with start-ups.

'If you develop smaller companies in the early days you are more likely to stay with them as they become bigger projects,' he said.
