For those looking to turn hi-tech science into business, the Norwich Research Park is working to nurture a 'business angel' community.
The Venta initiative has six-monthly events where Dragons' Den-style investors can identify potential opportunities, but it is also an opportunity for applicants to benefit from feedback and advice on their pitch content and delivery in a friendly environment.
Cheif operating officer at Norwich Research Park, Matthew Jones said: 'At the early stage of a company it is not just about money, it is about the experience of the investor. It is a helpful medium.'
But supporting start-ups and spin-offs is high risk and therefore the 'angels' are likely to want high returns on their investments. Venta angels was established with the support of Cambridge Capital Partners. The Norwich Research Park also benefits from the ICENI seedcorn fund, which has supported a number of successful spinouts and also the Low Carbon Innovation Fund, which provides equity investment through Adap+.
