With just hours left before EU referendum polls open, both campaigns have been making their final pitches to business. Here, Stephen Britt, managing director of Anchor Storage near Debenham in Suffolk, explains his choice.

The case for leaving the EU could not be more obvious than it is today, writes Stephen Britt of Suffolk firm Anchor Storage.

'We've heard some pretty crazy and scary arguments in this debate but for me the choice is simple: do we want to govern ourselves and make our own way in the world, or do we give that up to people who are unelected and don't have our best interests at heart?

'It's not rocket science – when small businesses succeed, our economy and the people of Norfolk and Suffolk succeed too.

'Remaining in the EU makes it harder for our 5.4 million small businesses to create more jobs.

'It doesn't make sense to be in an organisation that adds regulation and red tape to all our small businesses even though just 6% of UK firms actually export to the EU.

'Taken together, EU regulation costs small businesses in the UK more than £600m every week. Surely it makes sense to be in control of those laws and to decide for ourselves what regulations we have to suit our own economy?

'But it's not just regulation. We are told that the EU helps us trade with the each other and with the rest of the world. So why then are we part of an organisation which has a common currency, border, anthem and flag?

'Why has the EU been unable to strike free trade deals with any emerging markets such as China, India and Brazil?

'The EU simply isn't interested in helping British businesses like mine, or in bettering the lives of the people of Norfolk and Suffolk. The only thing that the EU is interested in is taking control: over the £350m that we pay every week to be a member, the laws that affect us and the border that is supposed to protect us. It makes sense to take back control.

'And that's why I will be voting to reclaim our democracy and to proudly leave the EU.'
