It's a small world for Sean Green and his son Robert - but it just got a little bit bigger.

The father-and-son have a job that would make many people envious - they get to play with model trains, planes and cars all day long.

And the addition of an extra 300ft of track means their business Wroxham Miniature Worlds now holds the biggest mono model railway collection on permanent public display in the UK.

The additions add to the existing 1,800ft of track at the Hoveton-based business.

The new collection, which only opened to the public last week, consists of five displays acquired when a similar attraction closed in Birmingham:

? A Scottish Highlands themed layout with royal train and the Queen and Prince Phillip miniature models.

'It was a massive undertaking getting them here from Birmingham,' said Robert. 'The displays had to be cut up in order to transport them and cuts were made through the layouts, the tracks and wiring.'

He said the contents were then delivered in three loads in late January and early February.

'It took five lorry loads and a van trip to get it all here. There was no framework, just the tops so we had to start building frames for them to sit on.'

Sean said it had taken six months of hard work involving a team of people to rebuild the layouts and convert some into interactive displays.

'We already had the largest model railways in the UK and when a similar attraction closed in Birmingham last year it seemed a shame that all the hard work they had put in was going to waste so we decided to rescue it.

'Had we realised how hard the work would be just to get the models out of the building and transported to Norfolk we may have thought again.'

In addition to the model train displays, the new collection also includes flight and train driver simulators, which are free to use for visitors, an interactive Scalextric and a collection of model airplanes.

Goodies for girls too

Since opening in 2014, more than 75,000 people have passed through the doors of Wroxham Miniature World in Hoveton.

The model trains have covered enough miles to circumnavigate the globe and enough scale miles to almost reach the moon.

But the attraction is much more than just a collection of toys for boys and there's enough on display to interest people of all ages and genders.

There are also impressive displays of dolls houses, hand built model boats, model cars and airplanes, a Lego village and vintage video games and toys.

'Many have been built and donated by local people for display,' said managing director Sean Green.

'Our Lego display grew again this year and is made up from over 100,000 individual bricks.

'We have certainly built an attraction that is unique and that is now bringing in visitors, not only from across the country, but from around the world.'
