Two highly-respected competitors from Norfolk completed a rare double in the inter-breed sheep competition yesterday.
The honours went to Jonathan and Carroll Barber, of Crogham Farm, Wymondham, with a two-year-old pedigree Charollais ram, Rockvilla Ferrari. He was inter-breed champion at the Royal Norfolk Show last year and then went on to take the Charollais male championship and reserve supreme title at the Royal Show, Stoneleigh, a few days later.
Mr and Mrs Barber, who run a small pedigree flock of Charolais bought the ram as lamb from a Northern Ireland breeder with Northamptonshire farmer Stuart Dunkley.
They only took two Charollais sheep to Ipswich and their other ewe, sired by Ferrari, was also a first prize winner. Now, they plan to take their ram to the Royal Norfolk Show to defend his inter-breed title.
The reserve inter-breed champion went to the Swaffham flock of Suffolks, shown by Gordon Beddie. His young ram lamb, just five months old, was impressive and certain to catch the judge's eye again in the coming months.
