For many seven-year-olds, staying silent for even an hour would be considered an impossibility.

But for self-confessed “chatterbox”, Isaac Savory, he managed twelve of them in a bid to raise money for the NHS.

The determined schoolboy wanted to help “beat coronavirus” and support key workers on the frontline.

He said: “I decided to do Isaac’s Sponsored Silence, no talking for 12 hours, for NHS Charities Together because I wanted to help them beat coronavirus.”

The young fundraiser has gone on to raise more than £1,000 for the charity’s Urgent Appeals Grant.

Parents Joseph and Rebecca Savory, of Paradise Road, Bawdeswell, based between Reepham and Dereham, said they were proud of their son’s efforts.

Mrs Savory said: “Anyone who knows Isaac will tell you he’s a chatterbox. In fact he’s always been a talker even from a very early age. That is why when he decided to raise money for the NHS he wanted to challenge himself to a sponsored silence.

“On June 13, Isaac was silent from 8am until 8pm.”

Isaac was given three passes, just in case he desperately needed to talk, and used picture cards and wrote lots of notes on a white board.

Originally he aimed to raised £100 but smashed his target by raising more than ten times that.

Mr Savory said: “This was his first ever fundraiser and he asked us if he could do it. After a chat, he decided that a sponsored silence would be a real challenge.

“The current total is £1,037.

“We are incredibly proud of him and he feels a real sense of achievement in what he has done.”

Mrs Savory added: “He’s never done anything like this before and his sense of achievement is through the roof.

“He is so proud to have been able to raise money and we hope that it will make a small difference.”

NHS Charities Together is raising money for its Urgent Appeal Grants, which acknowledges and supports NHS staff and volunteers caring for Covid-19 patients. It has been put together in liaison with NHS England and national bodies, NHS charities and national giving platforms.
