A traditional cheesemonger has started offering bespoke cheese tower celebration cakes.

Peter Pooley and his family took over Cheese and Bees in Walpole St Andrew last June when the former owners decided to step down.

Since then, they have focused on being "a full traditional cheesemonger with an old-fashioned approach to customer service", offering almost 100 different cheeses.

To create more of a relationship with their customer base, the team has hosted a range of cheese-based experiences such as open tasting days and cheese and charcuterie pop ups at a local pub.

But they now hope to become a part of peoples' private celebrations by providing a delicious alternative to cake.

"At the end of last year a customer was talking to us about a cheese board for her husband’s birthday and mentioned he didn’t like cake so cheese was his alternative," Mr Pooley said.

"I remember once seeing stacked cheeses before and suggested we make a mini cheese tower cake for his birthday - it went down a treat."

Mr Pooley then expanded the concept into creating a Christmas table centre piece and received so many enquiries that they turned it into a full service.

"I have seen some other cheese shops now offer some preselected options," he said.

"However ours are completely customisable and are completely bespoke - we work with the customer to design something unique to their personal taste specification and budget."

Cheese and Bees was even commissioned to create a personalised board for the wedding of their customers Jade and Jack Partridge.

Mr Pooley recommends an initial consultation to any interested parties after which a cheese tasting board can be supplied to help with decision-making.

Prices are estimated to range from £35 to £400.
