Fire and ambulance crews were also present, including two air ambulances and a volunteer paramedic from SARS.

A spokesman for the fire service confirmed appliances were sent from Great Yarmouth and Gorleston.

They made the scene safe and released the occupants of the vehicle using hydraulic rescue equipment.

A spokesman for SARS said "several patients" had been assessed and treated at the scene.

BBC Radio Norfolk has reported the road is covered in debris and a motorbike is lying on its side near the pedestrian crossing.

It also said a silver Ford is in the middle of the road.

The report added that cones marking forensic evidence have been laid out by police.

East Norfolk Sixth Form College principal, Dr Catherine Richards, said: "Following a serious road traffic collision outside of the college this morning, I would like to pay tribute to the college staff and students and members of the public who responded so quickly and professionally.

"They were among the first people to respond, alerted the emergency services and then continued to support the emergency services throughout.

"Our thoughts are very much with the people involved in this incident at this time.”
