Trains between Norwich and London Liverpool Street will be disrupted by weekend engineering works next month. 

Passengers are being encouraged to check before travelling as work in March will impact services between Norwich and Ipswich.

Engineering work and general maintenance are planned for the mainline between Norwich and Ipswich, with rail replacement bus services in place.

The maintenance works follow disruption to rail commuter's journeys on Norfolk trains over the last month - including multiple breakdowns, faults and a derailment that left the line blocked.

Crews will be renewing and maintaining track, overhead lines and signalling equipment, carrying out drainage work, inspections of the infrastructure, and checking for vegetation that might pose a risk to railway operations.

Katie Frost, Network Rail’s route director for Anglia, said: “It is really important that we are able to access the railway to complete the necessary tasks that keep the railway reliable and safe for all our customers."

The work will be carried out on the weekends of March 2-3, 9-10, 16-17 and 23-24.

Passengers can check their weekend journey plans and service alternations via the Greater Anglia website.

Jamie Burles, Greater Anglia managing director, added: “This work is extremely important to help maintain the safe and reliable running of the railway and make it fit for the future."
