An abandoned dog who was rescued by a Norfolk animal sanctuary is looking for a new home.

Ivy was found tied up and in an "emaciated" state after being dumped in woodland in Essex in December.

A passerby took her to a pound and she faced being euthanised.

However, she was rescued by Hillside Animal Sanctuary, which is based in Frettenham.

The organisation says she was "lucky to survive" as she was malnourished and in a "horrific state" when she arrived.

She was covered in open wounds, lacerations, and scarring, and staff say she had "obvious signs" of having been used for fighting and breeding.

They believe Ivy is a Cane Corso cross.

She has no microchip but they estimate that she is around five years old.

Since her rescue, Ivy is now back to full health.

A Hillside spokesman said: "She has now reached a healthy weight and enjoys wearing her pyjamas and sleeping in her warm kennel."

She will soon be listed for adoption for a new home, without other dogs.
