An investigation into patient safety is under way following the death of a 20-year-old who was found dead in a moorland park.

The body of Corey Lance was discovered in the woodland at Neatherd Moor in Dereham on April 26.

At a pre-inquest review, held at Norfolk Coroner’s Court in Norwich, assistant coroner Christopher Leach said: “Mr Lance was found when a member of the public was walking their dog.

“We are awaiting a completion of a patient safety investigation and therefore the hearing of this inquest has now been adjourned.”

Mr Leach did not confirm which organisation was carrying out the investigation.

His sister, Chelsea Howlett Lance, paid tribute to him following his death.

She said his passing had “sent shockwaves” through her family and the community.

“Corey was known as a caring, loving, there-for-anybody sort of young man,” she added.

“He will be sorely missed by myself, all his siblings, aunties, uncles, cousins, nan - all his family and friends.”

Mr Lance’s brother, Mason Cummings, also paid tribute. He said: “He was such a loveable person who always had a smile on his face.

“He would always ensure that everyone around him was warmed by his presence.”

At an earlier opening on May 11, the court based at County Hall heard that Mr Lance worked as a janitor at the Romany Rye, Dereham's JD Wetherspoon pub.

His medical cause of death had been given as “hanging” and an inquest to determine the official cause will take place next year on January 23.
