A Norwich student has won on the popular Channel Four show Countdown.

Viraj Seelam, a BA Film and Television Production student at the University of East Anglia, was on the cult show this afternoon.

Countdown host Colin Murray described Mr Seelam as a "boy wonder" after winning the show with a whopping score of 113 points.

Mr Seelam said: "I have been interested in Countdown since I was six years old. It was something my mum put on the TV every day when I came back from school.

"I’ve always been a word nerd, playing Scrabble and other word games on the computer, and I also liked maths in school a lot."

Mr Seelam is also part of the Quiz Society at UEA where he helps put on the society's quizzes, including a special Countdown-themed round.

He added: "Visiting the studio felt a bit familiar to me as I spent a lot of time in the studio in my first year of Film and Television with (lecturer) Chris Price, but it’s obviously way bigger!"

Mr Seelam hopes to continue his TV appearances by taking part in other game shows in the future.

He will be appearing again on tomorrow's show after the big win.
