The company behind some of the country’s biggest adventure playparks says its base in Norfolk has allowed it to more than quadruple its team since 2019.

From giant five-story toadstools to timber birds’ nests big enough for a whole family of humans to perch in, Scottow-based Creating Adventurous Places (CAP) is a world leader in designing and building large-scale play spaces.

Founded in 2014 by a group of former-Bewilderwood designers, the company has created some of Europe’s most exciting adventure playgrounds, including The Nest, Norwich City Community Sports Foundation’s hub, and The Fairy Dell at Fairytale Farm in Oxfordshire.

And with tourism attractions increasingly competing for visitors, marketing manager Johny Lyle said demand for their services has grown.

He said: “Often attractions come to us to help springboard a re-launch or re-brand because having a unique and exciting play space is a powerful selling point.

“The number of parents realising the importance of letting their kids have adventurous, imaginative play has shot up over the past decade and shows no sign of letting up.”

In the past three years, the CAP team has grown from four to 24, with a former Bewilderwood cleaner and cafe worker among those added to the management line-up.

According to Mr Lyle, this growth is due in no small part to their new site at Scottow Enterprise Park, which since their move in 2020 has allowed them to pre-fabricate some of their most ambitious builds yet.

He said: “Building six-metre-tall mushrooms or a seven-metre kraken you can slide through would have been impossible on site.

“Our space in Scottow gave us the ability to pre-fab, so we’ve been able to flatten out the demand curve and take on some really exciting projects more easily.

"Many of the jobs have gone to local people, there's a lot of talent out there."
