A rescue centre in Norfolk is at breaking point as it has been inundated with animals needing safe homes - including 17 kittens.

East Coast Pet Rescue is being flooded with sick and injured stray cats needing a safe space and it is now unable to take anymore in until it can rehome the animals currently in its care.

The centre has 17 kittens in total, from four litters, who will be looking for their forever homes in the next few weeks.

A spokeswoman for East Coast Pet Rescue said: "Currently we have a litter of six-week-old kittens with mum Gertrude. All cheeky mischievous little bundles who can be reserved now.

"Please don't forget the older cats as they will also need forever homes once they have been spayed."

He is healing well and should be ready to find his forever home in the near future, but can be reserved now.

A very timid, but friendly cat Sugar, 11, is longing to find an adult-only home and is described as "a lovely companion cat".

Fred and George, although very timid, love to play and are very comical. They will need someone with patience and a gentle approach.

The spokeswoman added: "Small rescues locally are bursting and we are appealing for adult homes for some of the more difficult cats to place.

"Several long-stay residents need to be placed in the right forever home to ensure they settle and become confident with their owners.

"Please consider the elderly or cats that may seem more difficult. They will repay you with endless love and companionship."
