Passengers can now get off at the eastbound platform at Brandon Railway Station again after safety work has been carried out.

Trains between Ely and Thetford resumed stopping there from Sunday morning.

The eastbound platform had been closed since March 1 after a safety inspection assessed the disused, old station building as potentially at risk of collapse.

A bus replacement service was then put in place while the platform was closed.

Works to enable safe public access to the platform have now been completed and customers can use the eastbound platform and the station footbridge.

Train operator Greater Anglia said: "We would like to thank customers for their patience while the work was carried out."

There have been calls for the historic station building to be restored and re-opened amid fears for its future.

While Brandon is still a well-used stop on the main line from Cambridge and Norwich, the station offices were closed in 1978 and were leased to a building company until 2004. They are now empty and boarded up.
