A town’s Christmas event, planned to replace the annual light switch-on, has been cancelled amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Swaffham Town Council has decided to cancel its Christmas market planned for Sunday, December 6.
The decision was made at a Full Town Council meeting on November 11, due to the event being “too close to the end of the current lockdown”.
The festive market was created as an alternative to the town’s annual light switch-on, that was also cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic.A spokesperson from Swaffham Town Council said: “Unfortunately we have cancelled the Christmas market as it is too close to the end of the current lockdown.
“The general Saturday market is running as a food and essential items only market at the moment but we are hoping that all the usual stalls will be allowed back after lockdown.
“Some of the stalls that were going to come to the Christmas market will also be attending on one or two Saturdays up to Christmas.”
