Thirty years ago, it was slogging along a busy bus route through Birmingham. But this double decker has now been reinvented as a glamorous cocktail bar - and is set up outside Stradsett Hall, near King's Lynn.

It was heading for the scrap heap, when its potential was spotted by Norfolk businessman Ryan Rudd, 28.

After a year-long transformation, the pop-up bar and restaurant is now open and taking bookings.

Mr Rudd said: 'I'd been looking for a vehicle to transform into a bar, such as VW camper vans or Citroen CV van.

'But then I saw the double decker bus and this was absolutely perfect for what I wanted to do.'

He added: 'I wanted to create a well-thought through space which had a bar serving well-made cocktails and a quality menu could be served. This is exactly what I envisioned.'

The bus arrived in King's Lynn in October last year and £100,000 has been invested in the interior and exterior makeover as well as ensuring it is also a reliable vehicle. Much of the work was carried out by local firms.

It was also branded the No. 08 Cocktail Bar and Dining Deck after a route it used to work through Birmingham between The Radleys and Hamstead.

The bus is currently set up outside Stradsett Hall, on the Stradsett Estate near King's Lynn for the start of a pop-up restaurant tour.

Mr Rudd is also the managing director of Twilight Bars, a mobile bar company based in South Wootton, near King's Lynn.

He said: 'I think the bus' concept has so much potential, ranging from a small wedding reception venue to an additional feature at an event or festival. And it can go anywhere in the country.

'The windows upstairs even open up so diners would be able to admire the views or even watch sporting events, such as the races.'

Mr Rudd added: 'It's already getting bookings and I'm really excited about the future.'
