3 Happy birthday Prince Frederick!
Thetford's Ancient House Museum is open for free this Saturday, January 20, in honour of the 150th birthday of Prince Frederick Duleep Singh, the last Maharajah of the Punjab. Prince Frederick gave the Ancient House building to Thetford to become a museum. Activities to celebrate his birthday will include costumed characters, a trail, craft, cooking, and object handling, plus free drinks and biscuits.
4 A festival of swans
Watch from the comfort of a heated indoor hide as swans gather to feed at Welney Wetland Centre, near Wisbech. This weekend's Festival of Swans includes talks and craft activities as well as swan feeds at midday and 3.30pm, and floodlit feeds at 6.30pm. www.wwt.org.uk/wetland-centres/welney
5 Under the pier
The Under the Pier Show at Southwold is a fun-filled feast of laugh-out-loud loonyness. Enter the world of Tim Hunkin and his wonderfully wacky arcade machines. Walk a dog, whack a banker, get granny and her zimmer across the road, build your own nuclear reactor or have a go on the housing ladder of hilarity. www.southwoldpier.co.uk
6 Under the table
For free fun at home drape sheets over a table and build a den which can become anything from a palace to a space station.
7 Best foot forward
Keep up with shoe styles from the 13th century to the present day at the Shoes! exhibition in King's Lynn.
See some spectacular Victorian shoes created to commemorate a Prime Minister and shoes inspired by the Egyptology craze of the 1920s, following the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb by Howard Carter of Swaffham. Also on show are white boots from the 1960s, platforms from the 1970s and high tech modern trainers. Activities for children and families. Lynn Museum admission free until end of March. Open Tuesday to Saturday 10am-5pm.
8 Climb, bounce, swim
Just because the weather isn't ideal for outdoor fun, it doesn't mean your kids can't burn off all that energy. Instead of climbing the wall, take them to your local climbing wall, trampoline centre or swimming pool.
