He silenced a 2,000-strong crowd with his Britain's Got Talent audition and he has wowed thousands more who have watched him online and on TV, but this evening Sam Kelly was back in Norfolk performing to an intimate crowd in his local pub in Spixworth.

Family, friends and fans gathered at the The Longe Arms in Crostwick Lane to give Sam a warm welcome as he visited the pub to film some footage for Britain's Got Talent.

About 40 people crowded around to watch Sam perform a string of songs including JCB Song, A Thousand Miles, Wherever You Will Go, and Say What You Need To Say. There were lots of claps and cheers and even some 'We love Sam' banners in the audience – and 19-year-old Sam clearly loved every minute of performing to The Longe Arms crowd.

The former Sprowston High School student said: 'It was really nice because I knew everybody in the audience. It was a massive juxtaposition to being on Britain's Got Talent and it was great to come back. It was really nice because everyone here has been supporting me and it was good to be able to give something back.'

His sister Hannah, 22, said: 'I am so proud of him. We always knew that Sam had a good voice and it is great a lot more people know now too.'

Landlord Eric Donnelly said: 'Wasn't he just fabulous! He was absolutely top drawer – we will definitely have him back! He has got a very big future – let's all keep our fingers crossed for him on Britain's Got Talent.'

Among Sam's friends watching him perform was 20-year-old Lee Chamberlin. He said: 'I am so happy for Sam. He really deserves it.'

In the first episode of this year's series, Sam received a standing ovation at his audition with a version of Adele's hit Make You Feel My Love, with Simon Cowell telling him he had 'nailed it' and 'had an amazing voice'.
