Bored of bad takeaways? Well now, thanks to a range of restaurants in Norwich and a few helpful cyclists, things are changing on the city's food scene.
Since a company called Deliveroo launched in Norwich last September, you can order a katsu curry from Wagamama or a gourmet burger from GBK at the click of a mouse and get it delivered by bicycle. But why not try something a little different? Here's a look at ten of the best independent eateries in Norwich you can order from on Deliveroo (in no particular order).
• Gonzo's Tea Room, 68 London Street
Don't let the name fool you, Gonzo's is much more than a simple tea room and while you would be denying yourself the pleasure of sitting amongst its eclectic décor if you ordered from Deliveroo, you would still be in for a treat. Their takeaway menu is made up of burgers, burgers and more burgers, (with some chicken wings thrown in for good measure) and will undoubtedly leave you feeling fit to burst if the size of their portions is anything to go by.
• Donnelli's Pizzeria, 17 Timber Hill
Ranked as the 15th best place to eat in Norwich on TripAdvisor, Donnelli's Pizzeria is serving up 13 different, simple yet authentic wood-fired pizzas for very reasonable prices.
• Chihuahua Burritos, The Mash Tun
Mexican Street food at its finest may be the only acceptable way to summarise Chihuahua Burritos. Offering a range of burritos, tacos, and tortas to satisfy all your tex-mex cravings this relatively new company is quickly becoming a local favourite. VanderlyleNOR on TripAdvisor, has even gone as far as to say that 'Chihuahua was the best burrito I've had in England'.
• Dray Yard Smokehouse, 31 Exchange Street
Dray Yard Smokehouse is grilling and smoking southern American style barbecue grub right in the heart of Norwich for all to enjoy. From beef brisket to pulled pork, all of their food is cooked for between 4 and 16 hours on smokers imported from Oklahoma and provides an authentic taste that will transport you straight to Texas.
• Brick Pizza, 39 Market Place
Samcoffs on TripAdvisor proudly proclaims that Brick Pizza is the 'best pizza in Norwich' and many are quick to agree with him. If you're looking for classic take away food with a twist, this is the place – try the Posh pizza loaded with sliced pears, crushed walnuts and honey or their vegan pizza brimming with olives, peppers and mushrooms.
• The Tamarind Tree Thai Restaurant , 1 All Saints Street
Opened by Peerada Morgan Johnson, The Tamarind Tree brings some of her favourite traditional dishes all the way from Thailand to the streets of Norwich. Popular dishes among customers on TripAdvisor include the Crispy Duck, Jungle Curry and King Prawns.
• Yemek Yemek, 13 St Stephens Road
This traditional Turkish Restaurant in the city offers customers a selection of hot and cold mezes - sharing platters which offer different foods and flavours as well as a range of main meals such as Etli Guvec and Imam Bayildi.
• Voodoo Daddy's Pizza, Plasterers Arms
Despite already having two other pizza restaurants on this list, Voodoo Daddy's stands out from the crowd for its inventive dishes. With a pizza menu that includes items such as the Death Star, Fat Elvis, Hello My Name is The Beast and Tikka Chu, it's not very hard to work out why their pizzas are popular.
• Shiki, 6 Tombland
Shiki is serving up a variety of authentic Japanese cuisine, offering everything from sushi platters to bento box meals. The restaurant has received high praise on TripAdvisor with 136 excellent traveller ratings and positive reviews. Jaslovesadventures describes it as being somewhere to go if you're seeking 'something unique and a break from the usual'.
• Ruth's Kitchen, 39 Magdalen Street
Ruth's Kitchen makes use of Jerusalem's culinary traditions to serve up healthy, authentic dishes with a twist. Expect lots of falafel, lots of herbs and more hummus than you could possibly imagine.
