MARK NICHOLLS

Tiaras and tantrums... you can expect the lot from pop's ultimate showman.

But few come close to emulating Elton John's string of fabulous songs.

His back catalogue is endless - hit after hit of great singles and superb album tracks... but what's your favourite?

We're dying to find out. That's why, as the countdown to Elton John's appearance at Carrow Road in Norwich on May 29 continues, the EDP has teamed up with BBC Radio Norfolk to come up with the superstar's Ultimate Top 20.

We're asking readers and listeners to tell us their top three Elton John songs, from which the best-ever Top 20 will be compiled.

You can vote for multi-million-selling singles, obscure B-sides or your best album tracks.

Your favourite may be Candle In The Wind, Sacrifice, I'm Still Standing or some of the older classics such as Rocket Man or Your Song.

Alternatively, it may be a track from early album Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player, or from his latest CD, Peachtree Road.

The final top 20 will be broadcast on Radio Norfolk on Bank Holiday Monday - May 2 - during a three-hour special presented by Stephen

Bumfrey.

Co-ordinating the top 20 for the EDP will be Mark Nicholls.

DJ Stephen is looking forward to finding out what Norfolk thinks the star's best songs are.

He said: “I'm a big fan of Elton myself and know what my favourite songs would be, but he's had more than 70 top-40 hits and plenty of albums which will contain favourite tracks for many people, so it'll be fascinating to see if everyone agrees.”

EDP writer Mark added: “In the '70s, I was an Elton John fan and must admit most of my favourite tracks are from that era, though I think the latest album is great, and in many ways a return to his earlier style.

“But it will be interesting to see what songs ultimately make up the Elton John top 20.”

Voting is easy. Just fill in the form on this page with your top three or visit the Radio Norfolk or EDP websites.

In addition to registering your hits, we also want to hear of any interesting places Elton John has appeared at in Norfolk, such as Hoveton Village Hall where he once did a gig.

Apart from helping shape our Ultimate Elton John Top 20, there's also a prize of two top-priced tickets on offer for the Carrow Road show where the singer and his band are expected to be on stage for two hours.

Every voting slip or online entry will go into a prize draw, with the result revealed on the May 2 radio show.
