Young Russian dance company St Petersburg Ballet Theatre makes a welcome return visit to Norwich Theatre Royal with their production of The Nutcracker, playing from Tuesday February 5 to Saturday February 9, nightly at 7.30pm, with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2.30pm.
As a curtain-raiser to their week's stay the company perform a special gala performance on Monday featuring fully-staged extracts from well-loved works featuring the one-act ballet Chopiniana, Paquita, the Panderos Dance from Raymonda and Fokine's The Dying Swan performed by prima ballerina Irina Kolesnikova.
The company of 50 dancers is renowned for its technical and artistic excellence and tours with a 35-piece orchestra presenting traditionally-staged classical ballet. It has been thrilling audiences in Norwich for many years with successes for their productions of Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty while The Nutcracker - the third of Tchaikovsky/Petipa's most famous ballets - is full of winter enchantment.
