The Guildhall, Bury St Edmunds

Loosely based on the story of Marni Nickson we have a one-lady show performed by Rebecca Thornhill. She plays the role of a Dubbing Queen called Carol James. This is in the 60s film set and she was the voice behind the famous faces.

This was in the days of reel to reel tapes and the good old hiss sounds and vinyl records.

Rebecca was a great all-rounder with a terrific singing voice. She talked and gossiped about all those big stars and in particular Audrey Hepburn and Julie Andrews. In the role of the dubbing queen she had no fame but was the voice behind the face. If it had been a radio show she would have been the star but when it comes to the film who reads the credits. What would the mention be anyway? The unattractive title of vocal dubbing.

You felt a kind of sympathy as she gave everything and got nothing. Not even an acknowledgment from the star of the show. It was an education in fabrication and a look behind the glam scenes of Hollywood.
