Norfolk was always going to be a fitting date on Shappi Khorsandi's latest tour which focuses on the life of Horatio Nelson's great passion - Lady Emma Hamilton.

But what made the comedian's appearance at the Norwich Playhouse on Thursday, March 8, was it was also International Women's Day - the themes of which intertwined with the show perfectly.

Khorsandi was her own warm up - 'Because I'm tight,' she joked. But she soon got the Norwich crowd going, teasing that 'Norwich is very Radio 4' when apologising for swearing.

But after whipping through more casual jokes on her own life, motherhood, and her time spent on reality show I'm a Celebrity she turned to the focus - Lady Hamilton.

'I'm the only one emotional about being in the place Nelson was born,' she said, as she turned attention to similarities between her, the #MeToo generation and Lady Hamilton. And she managed to convey the tragedy of her life and modern day parallels intertwined with quips to lighten the mood.

It might not have been the stand-up we're used to seeing from Khorsandi on the television, but it was both an interesting and funny way to mark International Women's Day in Nelson's own county.
