STEVE DOWNES

Relentless downpours took their toll in north Norfolk today as a showpiece carnival parade was postponed.

Organisers took the decision at 3pm to call off the Sheringham Carnival procession as torrential rain left surrounding streets flooded.

But chairman Tony Nelson said it would be rescheduled to 8pm on Sunday to "avoid disappointment for so many people".

The children's fancy dress was cancelled, while the pantomime horse race was also postponed and put back to 6pm on Sunday.

Mr Nelson said: "I've never known a deluge like it on carnival day."

Station car park – the focus for much of today's fun – was flooded, with people mopping up the dodgems and stalls.
