It may not be a Christmas film, but the Life of Pi (PG) will keep the whole family entertained for a few hours over the Christmas weekend. Director Ang Lee Delves into the world of 3D, with an inquisitive writer (Rafe Spall) who turns up at the door of Pi Patel (Irrafan Khan) wanting to turn his life story into print. Pi recounts his youth as the son of a circus owner whose family emigrates to Canada. On the way the boat overturns with Pi the only human survivor among with many animals, who as days pass prevail until only a tiger and Pi are left. The Life of Pi turns out to be a very moving story, which is a tribute to the human spirit, promising to take your mind off the hectic Christmas preparations.

Aladdin at the Norwich Theatre Royal is in full swing, with famous stars such as Lucy Dixon from Hollyoaks as Aladdin, and Graham Cole from The Bill as Abanazar taking to the stage. This production will mark the 12th Norwich Pantomime, which will bring a blend of traditional humour, family entertainment and slapstick, making this performance one of all ages. The big man himself is coming to Pensthorpe Nature Reserve, and will be there until Sunday before the big day. He will be helping out with the daily feed at 4pm, then you can meet him in his wintery grotto. For more comedy in film form then try Pitch Perfect (12A), which is about an all-girl cappella group who hope to dominate a national singing competition. The characters bring in the comedy with memorable girls, like Amy who calls herself 'Fat Amy' so other girls do not do it behind her back, and a softly spoken beatboxer called Lilly who manage to keep you laughing throughout, along with the slightly strained journey to get the group together, and to the competition. Pitch Perfect also delivers amazing musical performances to some of the great classics like Madonna and Jessie J, guaranteed to have you singing along.
