Comedy galore and a mix of theatre, magic and more is in store for audiences in the new season at Norwich Playhouse.
The St George's Street theatre has just released details of its new season of shows for September through to January, with its comedy line-up proving it is well and truly living up to its title as the 2018 Chortle Awards' best comedy venue in the east and midlands.
The new season opens with BAFTA winner Dylan Moran (September 3–6), Marcus Brigstocke (September 11–13) and Mark Watson (September 27–29).
Jason Byrne returns on October 12, as does Seann Walsh on October 13 and 14, and David O'Doherty on November 20 and 21. Other comedy highlights include Paul Foot (November 24), Jeremy Hardy (November 27-28) and Bridget Christie (December 3-4).
Norwich Playhouse director Caroline Richardson said: 'It's always thrilling to bring out a new brochure and announce a new season of shows, and I think this is one of our best yet!'
Audiences can also look forward to magic from Colin Cloud (September 21), Jamie Raven (October 1-2) and Pete Firman (November 3), meanwhile theatre includes everything from First World War play Private Peaceful (September 18–21) to Nightclubbing (October 23), described as an explosive performance of grit, glamour and Grace Jones.
There is lots for little ones, including the picture book adaptations The Gruffalo's Child (October 15-21), The Snail and the Whale (November 23–December 2) and Guess How Much I Love You (October 27-28).
Music highlights include The Ronnie Scott's All Stars (November 2), The Simon & Garfunkel Story (November 7), and Camille O'Sullivan (November 18-19). There is also dance from Rambert2 (January 31 and February 1) and Indian dance company Natyapriya (September 8).
Norwich Playhouse is collaborating with Norwich Science Festival on events including those featuring adventurer-explorer Benedict Allen (October 19), and Professor Alice Roberts (October 25) who recently presented Britain's Most Historic Towns: Tudor Norwich on Channel 4.
Threshold Theatre Company will present festive favourite Elf The Musical (December 12–22) and the Joe Ringer Band will return with their Christmas Spectacular (December 5-6).
