Norfolk duo Jack and Tim Goodacre through to Britain’s Got Talent final

The pair had gone straight through to tonight's live semi-final after earning Simon Cowell's golden buzzer and a standing ovation from all four judges.

And, following their performance of self-penned song Big Wide World, there was more acclaim for the duo, with the public voting to send them in the top three.

Reduced to tears when three out of four judges chose them as their winners, Jack, 12, said: 'I promised myself I wouldn't cry! That was amazing. You are the best audience I've ever had!'

However, Great Yarmouth Hippodrome acrobat Sascha Williams was sent home despite impressing judges with his daring circus skills.

Tim and Jack, from Eccles near Attleborough, and Australian performer Sascha were battling for the chance to win a slot at the Royal Variety Show and a £100,000 prize.

Before the public vote was revealed, host Declan Donnelly asked Simon Cowell if he thought his golden buzzer act would join David and Amanda's choices in Sunday's live final.

'I've got my fingers crossed,' he said.

David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon all said they were rooting for dance act DVJ who wowed the audience with their fast-paced routine.

Jack and Tim were voted into the top three most popular acts of the night alongside DVJ and comedian Noel James - DVJ won the most votes and were put through to the final immediately.

Judges then chose their favourite acts. David chose Noel, while Simon chose his golden buzzer act Tim and Jack alongside Alesha and Amanda.

Tim admitted he had 'no idea!' what the pair will be performing in Sunday's final, adding how proud he and Jack were to perform in such a line-up of talent.

'It's Britain's Got Talent for a reason, to be part of this is golden,' he said.

Before the results, viewers were treated to a performance from the West End stars of mega-musical Chicago, including Suffolk stage star Ruthie Henshall, who is the first actress to play three leading roles in the same London show.

Prior to their appearance tonight Tim had said on Twitter: 'So tonight on #bgt2018 we play a new song for you #bigwideworld. It's a pretty nervewracking thing to play a song no one's EVER heard on the nation's biggest TV show ! DEEP BREATH!!! Here we go Son x #chasingdreams #jackandtim.'

Following film of Tim and Jack, 12, at home and an assured performance on stage of the brand new self-penned song, the pair earned yet another standing ovation from judges Simon, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.

'There's something magical about you two when you perform,' said Simon, 'we have had dads and sons and mums and sons and it can be a little bit cringey but this isn't.

'You have this amazing chemistry. I would love to see you in the final, I think you two define what this show is about. Every time I see you two perform I feel good. There's a very positive energy that comes from you.'

David Walliams added: 'It was very, very brave of you guys to sing an original song but it was like watching you guys do a concert. Very assured, very professional.'

Alesha Dixon said the pair 'should be proud' of themselves while Amanda added that Jack in particular had 'star quality'.

Interviewed by host Declan Donnelly asked Jack if he could put into words how he felt.

'No!' laughed Jack, before adding, 'it's the best thing in the world. I would not swap it for anything else.'

Prior to BGT, Jack, aged 12, had already appeared on The Voice Kids and starred in School of Rock in the West End. The pair are a familiar sight in Norwich where they often perform on the streets, Jack has previously been hailed as the city's youngest busker.

Immediately after the Norwich singing duo, daredevil Great Yarmouth circus performer Sascha Williams took to the stage following footage of him at the Yarmouth venue.

The Australian performer, who has appeared several times in the Hippodrome's award winning productions, will be returning to the Yarmouth circus this summer.

Judges loved Sascha's balancing skills and the acrobat's guitar solo prompted Amanda to confess that she 'likes a bit of thrash metal' and jogs to Marilyn Manson. But he didn't get enough public votes to be named in the top three.
