Yarmouth welcomes a real Maestro this week when the star of the hit BBC show takes the baton for a concert at the town's Hippodrome Circus, as part of the first Out There international arts festival.

Tim Steiner, who television viewers will know as the conducting guru on the celebrity show which finished last month, will lead a performance by members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, who will share the stage with an array of international artists, as well as various performers who have been recruited locally.

Called 4 Corners in the Round, the show also features Portuguese artists Vozes da Radio, sound sculptor Joao Ricardo, from Porto, who has created an orchestra of instruments out of rubbish scavenged from the municipal tip at Caister, dancer Beatriz Simas from Lisbon, and a community chorus, young musicians and film-makers from the Yarmouth area.

All of this will be under the baton of Mr Steiner, who as well as being the lead maestro on the TV series of the same name, has directed hundreds of creative projects throughout Europe. He works with just about every major British orchestra, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia, BBC Symphony Orchestra and East Anglia's own Britten Sinfonia.

Joe Mackintosh, director of the Out There Festival, said Mr Steiner's presence on the platform was a measure of how seriously the town's new arts festival was being taken.

He said: “Tim is one of the foremost conductors of this kind of collaborative performance in the UK, as well as being a TV celebrity.

“When Tim is on the platform, the performance is always dynamic, unpredictable and explosive, as well as being immense fun, and 4 Corners in the Round promises to be one of the highlights of the Out There Festival.”

Tickets for the event, at 7.30pm tomorrow in the Yarmouth Hippodrome, cost £10 (concessions £5), and are available on 01493 844172, or online at www.yarmouthippodrome.co.uk

Full details of the festival programme can be found in the festival brochure, available from many of the town's shops, by calling SeaChange Arts on 01493 846550, or by visiting the website at www.outtherefestival.com
