JOHN LAWSON
Joseph Shabalala's 10-strong close harmony group has become synonymous with the sound of Africa. And it's not hard to see why.
It's an infectious, multi-layered, rich musical cocktail that pours over you with the smoothness of melted chocolate, the depth of the chording stunning the senses.
All his singers smile and dance, and dance and smile, with total spontaneity at one in their delight at bringing it to the world after so many years of oppression under apartheid.
Sharing the stage were guitar and concertina duo Fourteen Shabalala (no relation) and Shongshilo, with their soulful Zulu folk music about struggle and families, who are surely set for a big international future.
t Ladysmith Black Mambazo performed at NorwichTheatre Royal.
