JOHN LAWSON
There couldn't have been a much greater contrast between the two acts on the Norfolk and Norwich Festival opening-night comedy bill, at Norwich Playhouse.
But what camp impressionist Jason Wood and deadpan Jimmy Carr shared were Perrier Award nominations – which on this showing were richly deserved.
Carr was the surprise hit of last year's Royal Variety Show and the centrepiece of his act, a series of language-bending one-liners, is a treat.
Wood has a remarkable voice which tackles everyone from Alison Moyet and David Gray to Tony Hadley and Boy George with ease – all wrapped up with a likeable and self-deprecating personaility.
