Carducci Quartet are recognised as one of today's most successful string quartets. The Anglo-Irish quartet were recently given the Royal Philharmonic Award for chamber music and song, for their Shostakovich 15 project, in which they presented the composer's complete catalogue of works for quartet to commemorate 40 years since the composer's death. At the centre of this programme will be the anguished but beautiful 4th quartet by Shostakovich, flanked by Haydn's 'Sunrise' and Dvorák s delightful string quintet, composed immediately after the 'American' quartet and of a very similar joyful and song-filled character.
Academy of St Thomas, feat. Finlay McEwen

The Academy of St Thomas return to St Andrew's Church joined by talented Norfolk saxophonist Finlay McEwen, winner of the Norfolk Young Musician 2013. A former pupil at Norwich School, Finn studies at the Guildhall School of Music with John Harle. The concert offers a rare opportunity to hear the saxophone concerto by the Russian romantic composer Glazunov, as well as Rossini's sparkling overture The Italian Girl in Algiers and Schubert's Symphony No 3. The final work is Malcolm Arnold's Serenade for Small Orchestra, a tuneful work reminiscent of his popular film scores.
Bergamasca by Candlelight

Sounds from 16th to 18th century Europe in the final Binham season concert as Bergamasca, made up of Katriina Boosey, Frances Eustace and Lynda Sayce, present a fascinating evening of Baroque music. Bergamasca brings together these three talented instrumentalists and their impressive collection of wind and string instruments used to create fascinating programmes. Here they will showcase rarely heard Masque Dances and Divisions, beautiful French Suites and virtuosic works from the Italian masters Castello and Vivaldi. The players' friendly and informative introductions will also provide the audience with a wealth of knowledge about their beautiful, handcrafted instruments and the history behind them.
Valerie Hartzell

American classical guitarist Valerie Hartzell visits for this recital performing a variety of solo and duo pieces ranging from Bach to the Beatles. An American living in England, Hartzell recently performed on BBC Radio 3's In Tune and earlier this year at the Latitude Festival on the BBC Introducing Stage (the only classical musician picked from 117 on the short list). She will perform solos before being joined by Rod Faulkner, music director of the South Norfolk Classical Guitar Circle, for duos by Dowland, Marella, Lindsey-Clark and Giménez. The Proms with Norwich City Concert Band

Union flags and patriotic voices will be raised at Mile Cross Methodist Church, when Norwich City Concert Band, conducted by Brian Dermott, will be performing traditional songs from the Last Night at the Proms in the second half of a thrilling programme. The first half will be equally enjoyable for those who like to sing along, because the band will be playing popular tunes from the shows. Norwich City Concert Band conductor, Brian Dermott said: 'When we were asked to put on the show we jumped at the chance, especially on Proms night. We love to play music that people enjoy hearing and singing to, so people will be able to come along and raise their voices at our live Proms show.'
Octagon Concert Series

September sees the start of the new season in the popular and successful Octagon Concert Series, based at the Octagon Chapel in Norwich. The series began in 1984, and the hour long 'Lunchtime Concerts at the Octagon' in 2009. No musician receives any fee and proceeds are donated to various charities nominated by the performers. The new season begins with a performance by tenor Patrick Monk and pianist Karen Smith of one of Schubert's great song cycles, 'Die schöne Müllerin' Op 25 D795. It is the earliest extended song cycle to be widely performed, and considered to be one of Schubert's most important cycles.
