A special anniversary will be marked this weekend at the Grimes Graves prehistoric site on the Norfolk-Suffolk border.

Hundreds of visitors are expected to flock to the site near Mundford - seen here during a virtual reality project a few years ago - to mark 75 years since it opened to the public.

The land that contains Britain's only accessible prehistoric flint mine and a grassy landscape of more than 400 shafts, pits, quarries and spoil dumps is cared for by English Heritage.

Attractions this Saturday and Sunday will include a flintknapper demonstrating ancient toolmaking skills and an English Herit-age archaeologist leading tours of Grimes Graves.

You can also take along your own flint finds to be authenticated and dated by an expert.

Visitor operations mana-ger Julie Enefer said: “We're really excited to be celebrating our 75th year of opening to the public and we hope that, by running this event, we can encourage new visitors and returning visitors to come along and discover the fascinating history that's right on their doorstep.”

The site is open from 11am-5pm at the weekend; prices, £2.70 for adults, £2 concessions and £1.40 for children.
