Rock superstar Elton John is to perform at Norwich City's Carrow Road stadium as part of a UK tour.

And the organisers are hoping it will be the first in a series of major concerts at the ground featuring top stars.

Tickets for perhaps the biggest concert ever to be held in the city, on Sunday May 29, are expected to sell out quickly.

It will be the first time the performer, whose string of hits include Rocket Man, Crocodile Rock and Candle in the Wind, has played a concert in Norwich for 20 years.

Tickets for this fully-reserved, seated event are priced at £60, £40 and £35, with Canaries supporters given a chance to book seats ahead of Elton John fans.

Limited to six per person, they will go on public sale on Thursday February 17 at 9am by phoning the Elton John 24-hour ticket hotlines below, though Norwich City fans can buy them from 9am on February 8.

However, tickets cannot be bought by phoning the football club.

The event is being affectionately entitled Hello Yellow Brick Road by the organisers, who are overjoyed at securing the concert.

Andrew Cullen, Norwich City FC director of sales and marketing, said: "We are delighted to welcome legend Elton John to Carrow Road. It is the first concert held here for many years and we hope that Hello Yellow Brick Road will be the springboard for Carrow Road to host major concerts for many years to come.

"We are very fortunate to have secured the services of this premier league entertainer."

Sir Elton is expected to be on stage for two hours, performing a range of hits from his back catalogue through to tracks from his latest album, Peachtree Road.

The Carrow Road date will be his second appearance in the region in less than a year.

Last June 16 he appeared at Ipswich Town's Portman Road ground, performing favourites such as Daniel and Sacrifice.

The show runs as part of the UK leg of a global tour, with football stadium dates in Reading, Bolton, Watford, Coventry and Edinburgh.

The UK dates of 2005 are likely to pick up from the sell-out concerts of December 2004, with Sir Elton appearing with a live band.

Tickets will be available from See Tickets (0870 060 0244), Ticketmaster (0870 534 4444) and Ticketline (0870 444 5556) or online at www.seetickets.com; www.ticketmaster.co.uk; and www. ticketline.co.uk
