The owner of a popular spot in the Norfolk Broads has said being named the top restaurant in the county is "incredible".

The Kings Arms in Fleggburgh was voted Norfolk's best restaurant by Muddy Stilettos.

The eatery is now up for the national restaurant of the year, with the winner announced this week.

Owner Mark Dixon said: "It's amazing just to be included and we were in really good company.

"The other nominees were Store, Wells Crab House, L'Hexagon and Blue Joanna - to even be in that group is incredible.

"And I'm so pleased for the staff because we've been adapting from a pub into a restaurant so this is a real reflection of their work."

Mr Dixon credited the success to its clientele and location.

"We have so many loyal customers and have retained staff who joined us when we opened 10 years ago," he said.

"We're fairly big and out in the Broads so we're a nice stop-off or destination for people.

"And we make everything in-house which is special.

"Since the pandemic, people seem to go out for occasions not just for the sake of it so they tend to look for nicer food."

The Kings Arms prides itself on using local produce and homegrown herbs as well as a seasonal menu inspired by Norfolk.

Mr Dixon added: "We have a new menu coming for the summer and are planning on reopening the outdoor kitchen in the barn.

"We've done it before but we had to stop because it was too popular and we didn't have the facilities to keep up.

"But we're going to do it properly this time."
