Comedy, jazz, drama and more is packed into the new season at Norwich Playhouse.
There is everything from the return of the comedy duo The Nimmo Twins to a pocket-sized production of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors to a stage adaptation of a Roald Dahl classic coming to the St George's Street theatre over the next few months.
'The Playhouse is a very exciting place to be and we are immensely proud and happy to be able to offer such an exciting and varied new season,' said Caroline Richardson, director of Norwich Playhouse.
'One show I'm particularly looking forward to revisiting is Grounded, an Edinburgh Fringe First Winner in 2013 when I first saw it. A gripping play. The play's one of the best from the Fringe and comes to us on Wednesday, February 11.'
The Nimmo Twins - who sold out Norwich Theatre Royal and Norwich Playhouse last summer - are returning with the show Normal for Norfolk 12: Fritton's Got Talent later this month, and Karl Minns (one half of the Nimmos) will be at the theatre in April with his new solo show Raining Diamonds.
The theatre's stand-up comedy line-up for the New Year starts on January 14 with Mark Watson who is at the theatre until January 17. Comedy acts in February include Count Arthur Strong, Paul Foot and Josie Long, while coming to the theatre in March are Stephen K Amos, Jeremy Hardy, Richard Herring, Tom Stade, and Lee Nelson. Andy Parsons will be at the venue in April.
Members of the Pasadena Roof Orchestra will make their annual stomp to the Playhouse this month while Kenny Ball Junior and His Jazzmen will be at the Playhouse in February. Other music highlights include jazz legend and slide-trombonist Chris Barber leading his 10-piece big band in March, and folk-band The Demon Barbers performing at the theatre in May.
Among the children and family shows are David Wood's Gingerbread Man this month, and Room on the Broom in February, which sees a dog, bird and a frog hitch a ride on a witch's broom. Cinder-Ella, also in February, transports children into a fantasy world with inventive puppetry and imaginative silliness.
London Contemporary Theatre returns to the Playhouse in April with David Wood's adaptation of the Roald Dahl story Danny the Champion of the World, and later in the month a production of Stick Man, based on the Julia Donaldson book, takes to the stage.
The all-male Shakespeare company Propeller is bringing Pocket Comedy, the company's 60-minute version of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, to the theatre in March.
Later in the month there will be an Oscar Wilde double bill - Wilde Without The Boy - which dramatises the letter the writer wrote to his lover from his prison cell and also The Ballad of Reading Gaol which was written after his release. Wilde will be portrayed by Gerard Logan, an Olivier Award nominee and winner of The Stage's Best Solo Performer at the Edinburgh Fringe 2011.
