Catton Grove Primary School's wonderful recreation of the world of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream won the top prize at this year's Lord Mayor's Street Procession.
'Carnival spirit' was the five judges' criteria when marking the floats and performance groups, and with each and every group in the procession full of festival fun it was an extremely difficult competition to judge.
It was particularly tough too because there were so many brilliant and ingenious float designs and so many amazing dance and street performances.
Catton Grove Primary School's float inspired by the Shakespearean comedy combined everything and was an extremely worthy winner.
The pupils looked brilliant in their costumes and each and every one of the children also really got into their characters, whether they were playing the fairies, the Mechanicals, or the young couples from Athens in Shakespeare's tale of romance and magic.
The fairies in particular created an extremely striking carnival sight as they flapped their colourful wings along the parade route, and play's forest setting was brilliantly created with an array of giant leaves and greenery, and a bubble machine to add to the magic.
Angel Road Junior School won second prize, and Girlguiding Norwich came third in the competition.
The three runners-up were Lakenham Primary School, InTouch Systems and NANSA (Norfolk & Norwich Scope Association).
The five judges were: Brenda Arthur, leader of Norwich City Council; Ali MacKenzie, from Tin House which won the 2013 Lord Mayor's Street Procession competition; Stephen Darby, of Darby Rosettes who makes the rosettes for the procession; Anthony Isaacs, assistant editor of BBC Radio Norfolk; and Emma Knights, arts correspondent for the Norwich Evening News and Eastern Daily Press.
