A feast of festive music in the setting of an ancient north Norfolk church this weekend promises to get Christmas off to a heartwarming start.

Cantamus Choir's Christmas concert on Saturday, December 6, at 7pm in Overstrand Church includes both serious and light-hearted English and French pieces.

There will be music by Baroque French composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier, famous for the Te Deum used as the theme to Euro events - including the Eurovision Song Contest and Jeux Sans Frontières - as well as a selection of Christmas carols.

These range from works such as John Taverner's setting of William Blake's poem The Lamb, and popular arrangements by John Rutter, to arrangements of Frosty the Snowman and The Wassail of Figgy Duff.

In another of the evening's offerings, the well-known tune of the Holly and the Ivy is combined with the less-familiar folk melody.

Cantamus is directed by David Ballard, who is also organist and choirmaster at St Nicholas Church, North Walsham.

Entry to the concert is by £5 programme on the door and seasonal refreshments will be available.

The choir will also be making a special appearance at Cromer Orchestra's Christmas concert on December 11, at 7.30pm, in Cromer Parish Hall.
