Tickets for the Beautiful South concert in Thetford Forest this summer are proving to be the fastest-selling of any of the venue's events so far.

More than half of the 6000 tickets available have already sold out, just over a week after going on sale.

Forest district operations manager Mike Taylor said: "It is amazing. There are well over 3000 tickets gone. That is the best we have had, even better than Paul Weller, and I thought he was pretty popular."

The Beautiful South are led by former Housemartins, Paul Heaton and Hemingway. Their current album, Golddiggas Headnodders and Pholk Songs, has yet to achieve the multi-platinum success the band won 10 years ago. The aptly-named Carry On Up the Charts is still and one of the biggest-selling albums in British music history.

Last year Paul Weller drew the forest's biggest audience ever in one of a series of concerts which included the Sugababes, Bryan Ferry and Fun Lovin' Criminals.

The Beautiful South are due to perform on Friday, June 10 at the open air show at High Lodge Forest Centre.
