The iconic, cathartic noisemakers spun out an hour of Jason Pierce's painfully autobiographical tales of heartbreak, drug addiction, and his more recent battle with pneumonia.
The frontman stood motionless at the far right of the stage, while a monochrome light show danced eerily around him.
Every song was a journey from humble, strummed guitar chords and maudlin vocal lines into cataclysmic explosions of heart-tearing white noise. Tinges of soul were breathed into the screaming mess from two backing singers and organic organ chords stacked on top of the screaming mess of tangled guitars and rasping vocals.
Highlights include the aching 'Shine a Light', the self-delusional 'I Think That I'm In Love' and a cataclysmic 'Come Together'.
Leaving the tent fans chatted about the gig not as a night out, but as a religious experience - they came to be taken out of themselves, on a trip into the collective consciousness of one of the country's great modern confessional songwriters, and they weren't disappointed.
