Norwich Lanes traders will be showcasing what they have to offer with the return of a summer fair – and they are looking for people to get involved.

Thousands of people descended on St Benedicts Street and the surrounding area last year for a day of entertainment, shopping and fun to promote the independent stores in the area.

Officials from Norwich Lanes have announced that the fair will return on Sunday, July 10 - the day after the Lord Mayor's street procession – and promised that it will be bigger and better than before.

The free family event attracted large crowds last year and celebrates the uniqueness of the Lanes' shopping and arts offering.

The summer fair will take place between 11am and 5pm on July 10 and will include stalls selling vintage clothes, handmade crafts and foods along the length of St Benedict's Street as well as a varied programme of music and entertainment, including a climbing wall, mini vintage fair, Book Hive story time, poetry reading and music performances throughout the day.

Roger Pemberton, chairman of Norwich Lanes, which was formed in 2006 and currently has more than 80 members, said they were looking to extend this year's event to Upper St Giles Street.

'A year ago we moved it to become part of the Lord Mayor's weekend and that made it a massive success and we are going to make it bigger and better this time and will have a lot more stalls and offer a greater variety. We know from last year that if the weather is decent, there is a good take-up,' he said.

Mr Pemberton added that the fair was a chance for other independent shopkeepers and traders in Norwich and Norfolk to get involved.

The traders' association is now on the hunt for entertainers, including jugglers, clowns and stilt walkers, to perform on the day.

Norwich Lanes is also looking for stall holders to take part in the event. The cost of stalls would be 25 for members, 40 for non-members and 50 for food vendors.
