As thousands of campers arrive at Henham Park for this year's Latitude Festival, EDP reporters DAVID FREEZER and SAM RUSSELL soak up the early fun.

The electronic rhythms of tomorrow night's headliners Kraftwerk teased crowds arriving to Latitude Festival yesterday, as a city of tents grew in the lush Suffolk countryside.

But organisers were merely testing the main stage sound system as the first people to arrive at Henham Park basked in the July sun.

Sunglasses and sandals were the order of the day as excited festival-goers set up their weekend pitches, eagerly looking forward to the feast of music and comedy ahead.

Daniel Yellop, 32, of Norwich, arrived yesterday afternoon.

And – sat in a camping chair by his tent – the Norfolk County Council worker revealed the acts he is most looking forward to.

'I think Richard Ashcroft is a stand-out act for me because I was a big Verve fan,' he said. 'The Yeah Yeah Yeahs as well, just because they don't really come across this way.

'There's a host of bands that I know a little bit about and I want too know a bit more about, like Sweet Baboo, and I haven't seen Bloc Party for quite a few years, so that should be good too.'

He added he has been to the festival for six years in a row, and always camps in the same spot.

His wife, Susanna, 33, added: 'I love that it's local and the beauty of the surroundings. It's just such a nice, chilled-out festival.

'The familiarity is why it's so relaxed.'

She is looking forward to Foals and Kraftwerk, as well as the British Sea Power film.

And she smiled: 'The weather has been ridiculous – it's like another holiday.'

Vicky Stevens, 26, who lives in Spencer Street, Norwich, said: 'I'm looking forward to Kraftwerk 3D, I'm intrigued by that. Josh Widdicombe in the comedy tent as well, he's very funny.

'My first time at Latitude was last year.

'It's much more chilled out than other festivals, you don't get any meanies.

'I've been to V Festival before but the music here is so much better and last year it was really muddy, you had to wear wellies every day and it's supposed to be hot every day this year so it should be much better.'

Crowds milled around the arena ahead of the line-up lurching into action today, and snapped pictures of each other by the giant Latitude letters beside the lake.

Bo Jackson, 17, from Wenhaston has been to Henham Park for the last seven years and was looking forward to another fun Latitude.

She said: 'I'm really looking forward to Rudimental, really looking forward to Foals. Eddie Izzard as well, I love the comedy tent, I love seeing all the lesser-known people.

'I love the atmosphere at Latitude, it's very chilled, it's lush.'

Dale Gedge, 30, of Norwich, works as a paramedic.

He said: 'Obviously the music is good, but I think it's as much to get away and hang out in the sun.

'I'm most looking forward to Bloc Party, but I'll just wander about.'

He added he enjoys meandering from stage to stage, taking in comedy performances and music, to soak up the variety on offer.

Trev Smith, 30, of Norwich, works as an operations supervisor.

He said: 'I like how close it is. Last year we nipped off to a friend's parents for a shower which was nice.

'We always used to go to V Festival and this is similar I suppose, but with different music.

'There's quite a good variety of food here compared to other festivals, and the weather's going to make it isn't it. I arrived at 3pm and I've already got a tan!' n The EDP's team at Latitude will be bringing you the most extensive festival coverage around throughout the weekend.
