A production which aims to challenge negative attitudes towards asylum seeking and immigration is to take to the stage in Norwich.
Chalk Circle Theatre Company is creating the production – called Little Eden – which will be performed at The Garage from April 14 to 18.
It is being described as a musical that takes a satirical look at nationalism, and has been devised by a group of professional theatre-makers and young asylum seekers living in the Norwich area.
It tells the story of an 'alarmingly normal' man and his friend with a dark past who together dream up Little Eden, thought to be the best of all possible worlds.
Running parallel to this is a story following the journey of two young refugees from Africa to Little Eden.
The show aims to explore the connection between people and place and look at identity, belonging and displacement.
Director Adina Levay said: 'With Little Eden, we all contributed towards the creation of the narrative, text, visual elements, sound and movement. We inspired each other, pushed each other's boundaries and learned from each other.'
The Little Eden creative team includes director Adina Levay, composer/performer Chris Ellis, set and costume designer Sophia Egler,; photographer Moyses Gomes, writer Belona Greenwood and performer/choreographer Laura McGill.
The project has been supported by the Arts Council, Norwich City Council and Norfolk County Council.
Little Eden is at The Garage, in Norwich, from April 14 to 18 at 7.30pm. For details of how to book visit www.thegarage.org.uk
