Award winning singer to celebrate 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.

A very special additional event has been added to this year's Holt Festival.

On the afternoon of Monday, July 25, multi award winning vocalist Jacqui Dankworth and her band will perform musical settings of the poetry of William Shakespeare in a concert specially arranged to mark the 400th anniversary of his death.

The material for the show is inspired by, and taken from, the seminal 1964 album 'Shakespeare and All That Jazz' recorded by her mother Cleo Laine and her late father Sir John Dankworth (who set the words of Shakespeare to music).

This has not been performed since the 1980s when Cleo Laine re-recorded some of it for her album album 'Wordsongs', and Jacqui performed material from 'Shakespeare and All That Jazz' for Sam Wanamaker, helping raise money prior to the opening of Globe Theatre.

The concert in Holt will include jazz settings of Shakespeare's work such as 'Shall I Compare Thee to A Summer's Day', 'O Mistress Mine' and a comic setting of The Bard's complete works!

Jacqui Dankworth is one of the most highly regarded vocalists in the UK. Her concert appearances and recordings showcase her virtuosic, seemingly effortless mastery of a wide spectrum of genres. Known primarily as a jazz singer, Jacqui's unique musical palette also draws on folk, soul, classical, blues, and numerous other influences.

Reviewers have described her as 'incomparable', 'multi-faceted' and '…one of our finest singers, regardless of category' (Sunday Times). She has performed and recorded with a diverse array of celebrated musicians, including Paloma Faith, the Brodsky Quartet, Courtney Pine, Marvin Hamlisch, Georgie Fame, Gregory Porter, The London Symphony Orchestra and legendary jazz pianist Chick Corea.

Jacqui is also an accomplished actor, having performed leading parts with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, and in London's West End.

Holt Festival Artistic Director Charles Pugh said: 'I thought we'd completed our festival programme, but when the opportunity came up to add a singer of this calibre to the line up, especially with such a unique and timely show I really couldn't turn it down.'

Holt Festival runs from Saturday, July 23, to Sunday, July 31. For tickets, call the Box Office on 01603 598699. Alternatively, for more details, visit www.holtfestival.org
