A mash-up of classic children's stories is being added to Sheringham's summer drama season in a new youth theatre venture.

Tangled Tales is a fun cocktail of much-loved yarns and characters that sees Hansel and Gretel meet Red Riding Hood's big bad wolf, the Wicked Witch, Snow Queen and the Three Little Pigs.

It will be performed by a young cast, who also wrote the show and have ambitions in the performing arts, either on or off stage.

The drama will be staged at the Little Theatre from August 2-5 with its daytime shows laced into the venue's well-known summer repertory season which has now been running for 56 years.

It is by the Spinning Wheel Theatre's 'Takeover' company who first aired the show at Bury St Edmunds earlier this year.

The company's artistic director Amy Wyllie said: 'Sheringham wanted to add a children's show to the summer season and this seemed ideal.

'There are twists to the characters with the wolf as a wimp and the little pigs as baddies.

'It gets over a message for children not to judge people by appearances,' said Ms Wyllie, who is also directing The Railway Children in the summer season.

The 15-strong cast all aim to work in the theatre world and are gaining a variety of experiences to help them learn and decide what jobs suit them best.

The company is adapting the show, previously performed in the round, to the Little Theatre's stage. They are also preparing sets and publicity material.

Theatre director Debbie Thompson said: 'Tangled Tales is really exciting for us as it is the first time we have had a visiting youth company who will be residents for a week.'

Spinning wheel producer Becca Gibbs will also be devising the sets for the whole summer season, using a more simplistic approach to enable the children's shows to be slotted in, and giving a fresh look to the rep.

The Theatre Company is also running a Drama Summer School in Sheringham during the first week of the holidays for young people aged 10-16 years.

Tangled Tales is aimed at children aged five to 12 and their families.

Shows from August 2-5 are at 3pm apart from August 4 when it is 10am.
