When the GoGoHares hop into Norwich this summer, a colourful character inspired by the design of schoolgirl Holly Mckenna will take pride of place outside the head office of the EDP and Norwich Evening News.
Eleven-year-old Holly's idea, featuring Norwich Castle and the city's market, won our Design-a-GoGoHare competition – and now the talented youngster is excited to see her design being adapted and painted onto our sculpture by artist Paul Jackson.
Holly Hare will be one of 50 characters decorating Norwich for the GoGoHares trail, organised by children's charity Break and Wild in Art.
Our competition winner, who goes to Lyng Church of England Primary School, has been visiting Mr Jackson's Cromer studio to see her design come to life and help with some of the finer details.
And Mr Jackson revealed that he has made some very special additions to the design, adding a 'Where's Holly?' element.
Once GoGoHares fans find Holly Hare, they will then also be challenged to spot images of our competition winner dotted around the city scenes on the sculpture.
'I liked the idea of depicting Holly walking around Norwich with her drawing pad and drawing the different aspects of the city,' said Mr Jackson.
'The idea was to put her in a number of her favourite places, wearing the same outfit and with her favourite toy, Bubbles.'
Taking the idea a step further, Mr Jackson has also drawn a larger image of Holly painting on the back of the sculpture and has asked Holly herself to paint in some of the detail.
'I am drawing Holly drawing the canvas but Holly is drawing the canvas itself,' he said.
'It gives the sculpture lots of different layers.'
Holly, who lives in Lyng with her brother Kian, 12, and parents Donna and Kevin, said she was delighted with how the design had been developed and that she could not wait to see Holly Hare out on the GoGoHares trail.
All the finished GoGoHares are now gathering at a secret GoGoHares headquarters ready for the start of the trail on June 24.
The GoGoHares project is part of Break's 50th anniversary celebrations. As well as the trail featuring 50 hare sculptures dotted around Norwich, there will also be 18 hares to find in the wider county. There will also be a Norwich trail of leverets sculptures decorated by schools and community groups.
